Warren Moon to be arraigned on Drunk Driving charges

SEATTLE - Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon will enter a plea Feb. 5 on charges of driving under the influence, court officials said.

The charges stem from an arrest Dec. 28, when a Medina police officer saw Moon's vehicle on the Highway 520 Bridge at about 2 a.m. and noticed it had an expired registration tab, said Medina police Lt. Dan Yourboski. Moon had a valid Texas driver's license, but his driving privileges had been revoked in Washington, Yourboski told the Seattle Times.

The officer arrested the former Seahawks and Edmonton Eskimos quarterback on suspicion of DUI. He was taken to a Kirkland police station, processed and released.

If Moon enters a guilty plea at his February arraignment, he could be sentenced at that time.

Moon works as a colour analyst on the Seahawks' radio broadcasts. A Seahawks spokesman said the team would defer comment until the process is complete.

Moon pleaded guilty in August 2007 to first-degree negligent driving and was sentenced to 40 hours of community service, a US$350 fine and drug and alcohol awareness classes. Those charges stem from an April 2007 arrest.

In that case, Moon had been pulled over for DUI, but he tested below the legal limit for alcohol.

In August, King County District Court Judge David Steiner suspended a 90-day jail sentence for Moon as long as he completes the community service. He was fined $1,000 but $650 of the fine was suspended by the judge, said Dan Donohoe, a spokesman for the King County prosecutor's office.

The CFL Hall of Famer is a former Canadian league MVP and helped lead the Eskimos to five consecutive Grey Cups.

Moon starred for most of his NFL career with the Houston Oilers and played briefly for the Seahawks. He was voted most valuable player in Washington's victory in the 1978 Rose Bowl, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2006.
