Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby was named the Canadian Press male athlete of the year Wednesday, beating out the Phoenix Suns' Steve Nash and the Colorado Rockies' Jeff Francis. The Pittsburgh Penguins center received 58 first-place votes for 247 total points in voting for the award. Recently, Crosby, 20, earned a few "attaboys" after recording a goal, an assist and his first NHL fight against the Boston Bruins. Nash, the Phoenix point guard who won in 2005 and 2006, was second with 17 first-place votes and 122 points, and Rockies pitcher Francis was third with seven first-place votes for 50 points.
