890 CJDC The Peace Country’s Country Turns Sixty!!!

Who would have thought a small 1000 watt am radio station broadcasting from what was originally a fur trapper’s cabin, to a community of 3,300 in the Peace would have lasted 60 years? Astral Media proudly announces the 60th birthday of 890 CJDC AM on December 15th  2007.

CJDC  is now a 10,000 watt station and has grown along with the region it serves. Today, Dawson Creek and Fort St. John boast a combined populace of  30,000 and CJDC remains a cornerstone of the Peace region.

The launch of CJDC was challenging.  The community was quick to respond favourably, making it an important event in the growth of the Peace Region.  CJDC’s first two announcers were Omar Blondahl and Doug Haskins.

Promotion Coordinator Shaun Briltz encourages listeners to listen all year.  CJDC  will be giving its listeners great opportunities to win fantastic  prizes including the hottest Country acts on the planet, including  Big and Rich, Terri Clark, Corb Lund, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, and Brooks and Dunn.  This will be a great year for CJDC as it celebrates broadcasting to the Peace Region for 60 great years.

Congratulations CJDC (1350AM at that time) and Thank-you for giving me my start in broadcasting (1974-76) working along with the Michaud Family and other great communicators still working up and down the dial.

It was a hoot. Fond memories of coming into the station in the mornings, making a cover tape for the 11:00PM-12midnight portion of the "Nite Life" show sponsored by Mr Smittys on Alaska Avenue and then running into the TV doing News/Weather/Sports after the CBC-National.

Those walls inside that building have a thousand stories and this has inspired me to dig out some cover-tapes of a few of my shows. (Ask Kirk Mason do his Verna impression)

Again, Congratulations to the "Voice of the Peace River Country"

Regards,

Rob Collins

As a former employee of The Mighty CJDC, keep on keepin' on. There are a lot of veteran employees in the building who deserve a big thanks from present and previous ownership.
