Sherry Ross lands Devils job

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Sept. 21

NEWARK, N.J. - Sherry Ross, the first woman to broadcast a male professional sports team, was hired by the New Jersey Devils on Thursday to be the club's radio colour commentator.

Ross also served as a radio analyst for the NHL team from January 1992 through New Jersey's first Stanley Cup-winning season in 1995. She rejoins the Devils after 12 years with the New York Daily News, where she covered hockey and horse racing.

Ross attended the 1994 Stanley Cup finals as an analyst for NHL Radio, another first for a woman broadcaster. She authored the Hockey Scouting Report from the 1990-91 season through 2003-04 and previously worked as a sports writer for Newsday, The National, and The Record of Bergen County.

Her career began in 1978 when she covered hockey for the Daily Record in Morristown, N.J.

Ross has served as secretary-treasurer for the Professional Hockey Writers' Association for 15 years and has been a member of the board of directors for the National Turf Writers' Association for the past two years.

She will join play-by-play announcer Matt Loughlin for Devils broadcasts.
