Is it just me or is the Weekend Global News team's happy talk getting just ABIT too syrupy? I had to dial out this morning after getting waay too much of Robin Stickley and Kristi Gordon's back 'n forth as Kristi chowed down with the PNE Prize Home Brekkie winners. "Bring us back some Bennie Gordie". I admire both of them as news/weather people, but GEEEEZ you can overdo the happy talk thing.
I think it's a great crew. It seems to me to be very natural and not the least bit forced. The weekend crew, in my opinion, is the strongest of any of the other groupings that Global BC has assembled for any of it's morning shows in recent memory. I would much rather listen to this team than the incredibly stale and forced weekday morning show and, in fact, I think they are much stronger and articulate than the Zack, Daniels and Darling (or whomever) group of a few years ago.
I've heard some people complain the "banter" gets dragged on a bit too long sometimes, and others that love watching it because of just that. They're having fun and it shows. They interact with their viewers via email, and I've had the chance to meet some of the crew and they're great people. When Mark Madryga was doing the weekend weather, I emailed him about popping by the studios one morning, and he actually picked up the phone and called me.
They're a class act. I like watching them. I guess if you don't like it, change the channel. I think they'd kick butt if they were on weekdays. And I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened down the road.
Agreed they are waaaaaay better than the Princess Fiona/Nessman show offered weekday Mornings on Global! (You can almost see the brick wall between those two). I even think Kristi is better than Tamara on Channel 9. My point was SOMETIMES they do tend to milk "happy talk" until it gets too syrupy. My intent was NOT to say they are an awful team....FAR FROM IT, just tone down the "happy talk" a teensy bit.
Kristi is the real deal, Tamara just seems to be faking her way through it. That might be overstating it Tamara has really grown into the job but Kristi just seems more legit.
I think the Global Weekend Crew is fun to watch. Sometimes you can overdo the "happy talk", but when it's "off the cuff" that tends to happen once in awhile. That show has a tradition of that stretching all the way back to when it first started when Jennifer, Wayne, and Squire did it. I still think Jennifer Mather (Burke), was the best at running a show on that station. She knew when to pull the other two back better than any of the other anchors that have followed on that show.
I’ve always watched the Global weekend news and have always been a fan. But I have to say my all time favorite was the combo of Mark Madrya, Robin Stickley and Jay Janower. Nothing at all against Kristi, I just thought they were hands down thee best combo ever!
You gotta like Jennifer Crosby on CHEK for keeping a show moving and perky. She's fast with the come backs on the 6 and late news. Is she the new Ed Watson?
