Fire Takes Winnipeg Stations Off Air

July 24th, 2007

An electrical fire at Winnipeg's tallest transmission tower, this past Sunday, disrupted several Winnipeg radio stations signals.

The tower transmits signals for four radio stations, 92 CITI-FM,102.3 Clear FM, HOT 103 FM, 99.1 COOL-FM and television station, OMNI TV all went off the air Sunday afternoon. The tower is owned by Rogers Broadcasting.

CITI FM and HOT 103 developed makeshift transmitters yesterday. Rogers owned stations CITI-FM and Clear FM had their modified transmitter back on-air yesterday afternoon. OMNI TV is also back to broadcasting normally.

The cause of the fire, which caused up to $500,000. damage, has not been determined. Representatives of the stations confirm the tower does not have to be replaced, however the cable and communications equipment does. Repairs should be completed by mid-week.
