I noticed that 660News has David Spence doing a few live hits in the afternoon now.  In the morning, Henley and Parcells are now anchoring the entire newscast together instead of one voice carrying the majority of each half-hour.  Overnight is down to one voice (not sure if that was because of an absence, but really do you need more than one person anchoring overnight?), and they now tape the traffic person for the overnight hours.  And the announcers are getting better at syncing their tone with the real time.

I noticed that CHED in Edmonton recently started cloning 660 by doing the reporter intro's before the newscasts.   Good to see that "Alberta's Most Respected Newsroom" as they self-proclaim comes up with their own ideas.

No, pretty much everything they do has been done before by Big Mama 680 News back in Toronto.  That's not the point.  Would CHED have started putting headers in their newscasts if 660 hadn't come along?

For the record, I only listen in morning and afternoon drive.  No, I don't work for Rogers.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

CHED started using headers 10 months before 660 and their markets are 300km apart. What's the connection?

And headers have been around on the CBC and BBC since Marconi and Fessenden were mere twinkles in their father's eyes.

Sheesh!

CHED wasn't using headers until after 660 came on board.  They know Rogers has a radio foothold in Edmonton and TV now as well with CITY, and likely only a matter of time before they pop up an all news there....likey once Calgary is well established....so why not, start tweaking your station before the competition shows up.

Can't anybody read? CHED's use of headers took place in September 2006, which if I recall correctly was pre-660's switch to all news or shortly thereafter.

Rogers' new foothold in Edmonton is the old A-Channel TV station.

On their radio side, which would they flip: CKER World FM or the Bounce? When did all news succeed on FM?

And if it is insisted that one station did something because of what another station did in another market months later... this thread has suddenly become a pointless travel back to Edison reciting "Mary Had A Little Lamb" into a wax cylinder recorder.

Before long we'll be arguing about a library in Rome 330 B.C. and who wrote what first.

Radio re-invents itself continuously. Get used to it.

It would have to be CKER because the bounce is CHUM, not Rogers.  That CKER rumor of going "news" has been going around for some time, but considering it has the ethnic format all to itself, and some pretty loyal listeners and accounts, it doesn't seem like its going to happen.

My bad.

Should have read Sonic FM. Along with CKER they were both formerly OK Radio Group properties.

And the use of headers was legit radio journalism decades before BellGlobeMedia pursued CHUM assets in July 2006, which ultimately led to the Rogers inheritance of CityTV stations in June 2007.

Those folks at Corus Edmonton must use Kreskin as a consultant. Somehow I don't think CHED's track record versus Rogers' rip-and-read is a cause for worry.

And since when did diverse ownership in a market become a bad thing?

660 News launched in around the Spring of '06, which the last time I looked was several months before September 2006.....

And, I doubt Rogers would change either FM in Edmonton...they'd wait and buy a flailing AM from some company...as mentioned in the Hicks on Six Article.

I agree with you on this one...especially since World FM fits in with their OMNI brand, which if I'm not mistaken will be coming to Edmonton soon.
