To celebrate Canada Day, CBC News, Facebook and the youth organization Student Vote are asking Canadians to share their vision for the future of the country. THE GREAT CANADIAN WISH LIST marks the first time that Facebook has partnered with a major broadcaster, and promotes civic engagement among Canadians. Launched Monday, May 28, Facebook users can join THE GREAT CANADIAN WISH LIST group where ideas for building a better Canada can be posted, reviewed and discussed. Facebook will rank the wishes based on popularity. Users must then rally behind their ideas to persuade fellow group members and their Facebook friends to back their wish. Emerging patterns, trends and discussions from the group will be tracked by the CBC. Journalists will interact with Facebook users who are part of the group to generate stories for broadcast on CBC media platforms including radio, TV and cbc.ca/wish. Popular ideas will be compiled into THE GREAT CANADIAN WISH LIST to be featured as part of the CBC’s Canada Day coverage. THE GREAT CANADIAN WISH LIST was co-developed by Toronto-based CBC NEWS AT SIX reporter Mike Wise and Taylor Gunn, the founder of Student Vote, an organization that promotes civic literacy and participation among Canadian youth. Canada is one of Facebook’s largest networks worldwide, with close to three million registered Canadian users. THE GREAT CANADIAN WISH LIST launches Monday, May 28 and concludes Sunday, July 1 on CBC Radio, Television and Newsworld.
