Hi .. .there was a milkman posting months ago (Jan or Feb) saying there's a new clear sky radio station opening in Lethbridge in the Spring... IT's almost the end of April... anyone knows what's going on with that?

Whoohoo, THAT was one of those quick one liners that makes a guy laff out loud! Nice job!

I am a little curious as well. I worked in The Bridge for a while and like the city, except for the incessant wind. It's a GREAT market to start in.

Here's hoping Larsen runs the radio station from Lethbridge and not some far off city.  He needs to be close to the community.  Good Luck Paul ... if you're in Lethbridge!

He's definitely in Lethbridge and making progress on the launch.  Said he's been here since February.  We had coffee yesterday.  He was talking about a June launch and starting to hire a few people.

Hey 'whoohoo'... no need to be a smart ass - I was just asking what - IF ANYTHING - was happening with the station.  And just cause I asked, doesn't mean I applied... that's whats wrong with alot of people on this board, assume things without knowing the facts!
Thanks to all the others who have put some valid comments/info in... hopefully some day soon there will be decent media in Canada.... not sure how long that will take though...

I'm happy that the call letters will be the classic CJOC radio.  It's great to have those letters back here in town

I know a lot of seniors / middle aged folk who miss a lot of the "vintage" music that 1060 used to play, looks like the playlist of the Lounge will be very similar to CKMX Calgary.  I for one welcome this format in town.

Don't worry, Onecan. I hear ya. Easy for a lot of people on this forum to be smart-asses when they can be annonymous. It's happened to me too. Unbelievable to me how imature people can be and how badly they treat other people and their questions/comments when they themselves can hide. I've been out of the business for over 10 years and I like to know what is still happening in radio and believe me, I'm not applying--just curious.

People, this is a RADIO forum. When did everyone get so uptight? If that is the way you approach your radio career, you better get out soon. You need a sense of humour, not only for on air or creative, but to put up with some of the stuff that goes on in the industry...trust me.

agreed, I thought that was a pretty funny one liner.  I am sure no personal offence was intended.

It was laugh out loud funny. If you are going to read a one-liner this one-liner season, read this one.

What are you? highschool boys? If I wanted to hear one liners, I would have put a post up asking for them. My post was in regards to information about the new station.  That's all.. just wanted info as to format, when it starts up.. who may be on it etc... Never did I say that I applied or wanted to... so the swarmy smart ass remarks are really uncalled for and unneccessary!
As for being offended -- not really... seeing what the media market in Canada is like nothing on this board shocks me.. it just amazes me that for people who are supposto be "professionals" act like highschoolers both on and off the air...

I wouldn't say "quit your day job" - but buddy, chillax.  Man, you are a candidate for high blood pressure meds - if you are not already on them.

I apologise to you - I never intended my one-off to cause you to respond so poorly.  It was just a joke, okay?!?  Something that came into my head - like I do when I'm on the air.

You're kind of freaky if this is pissing you off so much.

Relax.  Jeeze.

Wow.  I thought Woohoo's comeback was typical of what you'd hear in the hallway of any radio station.  I'm sure it wasn't meant to insult.

I'd have given a "I guess I walked into that one" and went on with my life.

Last I heard, radio is supposed to be fun.

I agree with you GQ.  When I first started in this biz one thing a vetran told me one day was, "Radio isn't for the faint hearted".

I didn't get the gig either.

Awesome. The funniest thing about this thread is - - it was a question about a pretty decent radio market and "what's happening?"  It took all of one reply to start the defamation of character. First of all, TV and Public Speaking aren't for the faint hearted. Don't twist words. That comment was never tagged for radio, ever. Radio IS for the introverted. It's been proven time and again. Most of the 'decent' people in this business have some kind of knowledge of basic psychology and they would agree with this whole heartedly. The insecurity within this business (radio) is rampant and it's very clear right here on this thread. I'm still laughing at this.  I don't have as much experience as, say, Quagmire who's implied he's worked at 90% of Canada's Radio Stations, but I'm sure someone's smart enough to read into that posting. Dude, that's a lot of experience you have. You must be friggin' amazing. You should get some contacts for a killer promotions guy or gal from all your "aliases" on this board then go for syndication. Clearly you're way too good for terrestrial radio. Same with the God-Like Whohoo.
Last point, if I may, a station's got a lot of pieces to make it run. That means, TEAM. I highly doubt most, every, or a percentage of radio stations allow this kind of trash inside their 4 walls. Trashing, demeaning, defaming? Give it a rest. If the ones you clowns have worked at allow it, there are serious problems and I'm glad I don't work there. Again, I don't think it'd be hard to find anyone in agreement on that one.
Let's assume the question was sincere and not everyone is looking to take their insecurities out on teammates, while calling a kettle black. Then, it would've been and honest answer for a reply. Perhaps a thank you to round it out. Basic, quick and to the point. Maybe 3 replies? Oh, that principle might be a little too steep for those incredibly talented radio guys who apparently walk up and down the halls of their stations spitting on the team.

DawgEatDawg...guessin' you didn't get the gig either, dawg...

(Jeepers - can you get a whiter than white nickename???  heh heh)

Cripes - who dresses you kids in the morning.

Quit being such spazzes fercryinoutloud...

As to the Lethbridge station - I actually think the way the jobs being posted are very cool and I think that Paul is one of the most brilliant broadcasters that I've ever worked with.

I hope he hires people that actually have a sense of humor (I know he will).  These babies that cannot take a joke are a joke.

Mah HA!

We may be getting older, but that doesn't mean we have to grow up! Lighten up, my friend! No one is out to get you here. As far as Canadian media people go, I doubt you would find a better group of people to hang with. Somebody in some market must have crapped in your crispies. I have been part of the evil Canadian media for almost 20 years and I can honestly say that I haven't made one enemy in this business.

What amazes me is how quickly you turned around with your fists up...wow.
