I was flipping around the dial today and came across(what it seems to me anyways)a new signal coming from Airdrie. It seems like they're testing on 106.1FM. After listening for awhile it sounds like its another lite96. Great...just what we need. Another "lite" station. How long have they been on, and is this what they're going to play all the time?

It's the Jamie Theissen group, going to be called "The Range'. It's set to launch in the next couple of weeks but not sure of the format.

Yah...like we need another station playing music we have already heard in the market, i think he'd be smarter to do a country format. They have been testing on and off since february, the started testing with what sounded like kids from a school. This new testing sure sounds better...How does theissen think he can make a go in airdrie?

They sound OK.  Based on what I have heard the last few days, I would much rather listen to them than a ton of the Calgary stations.  They certainly put a nice signal into northern Calgary.  I'm sure they have signal problems in other areas of the Calgary though (3600 watts just won't cut it for good city wide coverage).

At any rate, I don't think they could care less about Calgary.  They just want to do well in Airdrie and Cochrane.  I suspect that they will do OK because both citiies are nicely separated from Calgary and both now have strong commercial bases and strong municipal identities.  I know a bunch of people from both Airdrie and Cochrane and most of them draw the line at being considered Calgarians (even though several work in Calgary).

I listen to the Eagle a fair bit and they seem to be doing just fine serving High River and Okotoks.

I hear that CFIT could have launched earlier but were delayed because they had to reapply for their Cochrane repeater frequency.

Does anyone know who will be the morning man or any on air staff.  I haven't heard anything.  All I know the guy thats doing the promos is Marty Lawerence. If anyone knows that would be great, if not will have to be listening on the 12 of April

It was mentioned a few days ago in Chris Gerritsens column, I believe it's going to be Bruce Daniels formerly of Classic Country and Marty Lawrence.

So far I really like what I'm hearing, had it on pretty much the entire evening during a party and no one else seemed to want to chage to another station...

Considering what I've been hearing from stations over the last 15 odd years or so in Calgary...I'm kind of glad to have a station that seems to cater more directly to a woman than strictly men and whatever woman happens to be listening to them.

Stations will cater to the specific groups, the teenagers (Vibe, Energy, Fuel etc.), the country folks (Country 105), the rockers (Cjay, Q107), the middle of the road couples (Jack & Lite 96)...this seems to be a stations that plays everything I like...not sure if it's a compliment or not, not sure if thats what they were going for...but in the end...I'm hooked...hopefully this is not just the testing music and then they switch to something else...if they do...I'll be back to surfing the dial listing every now and then to the odd song I like...
