Is he with the Truhn stick or the other one?  I wonder if they'll also share the same parking lot as XX and Sun(uh...Rock).

Oh, and GrandE Prairie btw.  Don't forget the 'e'.  They're all sensitive about that up north.

"Check it out!  this is the front door, where everyday at 12:30pm I'll stumble in after a 3 gin martini lunch, to rock the "Prairie" from 3pm to 6pm!"

On the stations myspace he says the above. I trust you don't need a buzz to go on air do you?

RM - One more please.

Why would a morning team transfer from a large city like Halifax to a small remote city like GP?

uh, wrong station.  Vista is FreeFM.  If true, that rumour would have those two going to the Truhn/Sawchuk stick (name still to be revealed).

As to why?  Money yes.  It's a booming town.  They were unceremoniously sacked out in Halifax weren't they?  Employment is always a good motivator.  Who knows?  They'll be two of MANY in N. Alberta from the East Coast, with more sure to make the trip at some point.

The question of course is what format these stations will all launch at.  SUN snagged rock shortly after the decisions were announced.  Can "The Kid" switch gears and program a Top40/CHR/HotAC?  Or will the Truhn crew stick to their guns and fire up a rocker to go head-to-head?

FREE FM will be Classic Hits.

One of Vista backers is an energy company. This company has 100's of millions. It was VERY important they got approved in GP. Extra bonus if they get in at Fort Mac.

Vista has no problem in the cash flow area. Hence the spoken word Energy spots they will be doing. They have great team when it comes to selling the plan to the CRTC.

Apparently the name at the Truhn Station is Q98.9 Change of frequency was approved by the CRTC today...as for Vista and FREE-FM they are playing classic rock, a bit of new rock and some country rock.  Commercial free so far no word when the annoucers and commercials start.

how classic would THAT be.  update the logo a bit, similar format tightened up a bit to go for the women unceremoniously dumped with the rock flip, Dave "The Kid" back on air, heh.

I take it Truhn is going something other than rock with Free going classic and Roger's being dicks (or wise forward thinkers with first movers advantage, depending how you look at it)

Looks like the myspace has been set to private by Dave @ FREE FM. This user must add you as a friend to see his/her blog. Not that there was any great info anyway. Maybe staff are just out for a couple of rounds. I think Free should of had the website page up for the people of GP during testing. I would say there core listeners can use the net.

I like what Fuel has done with testing bringing in Cochrane making it fun and I really like the name FUEL. They have the web page up it's realy the way to go.

So it looks like GP will be without a female-targeted station. Disappointing considering half the population is women. And young women at that. I wonder if this will become a BBM market?

"Quality Music. True Variety" is a standard AAA slogan. I'm not a triple A expert but the format targets both males & females, right? I'm talking about a station that specifically targets females like a CHR or HOT AC.

I don't mean to insult (if I do, it's probobly because I'm ignorant), but doesn't it make more sense to target both men and women in a market the size of Grande Prairie? At least both rather than just male?

Q99 is testing now at 98.9

A pretty broad mix right now - in the short time i listened i heard tom cochrane, barenaked ladies, ac/dc and new nelly furtado.  I guess time will tell if they will stay that scattered.

A really interesting take on the "testing" id's.  lots of voices - some are even kind of funny

Sounds like the old 1050 CFGP. To think 10 years ago and a bit there were 2 AM stations, Oldies+AC & Country.  Now there will be 0 AM and 6 FM, 3 Rockish; 2 Country (1 repeater); 1 Christian.  wOw.  300% increase.

I believe the Truhn clan is afraid of future imposed copyright payments.  So if they don't stream now it won't cost them then.

q99 has the launch audio up on the site now.

Brian James is the voice.  I've always liked his tone.

First song.  Santana/Rob Thomas - Smooth.  Safe.  A little dated.

Not stellar, not horrible as far as launches go, I'd give it a solid "B".  B+ if they would have omitted the blurb by Truhn, didn't need to be there.

All in all, congratulations on the launch.  Get a stream!

Also, mention that Hugh Dixon (ex CFMI, Jack Victoria) has moved from Z99 Afternoon Drive to Jack Regina.

Newstalker, if you're new, then you wouldn't get it.

There are have been some epic threads on here about Vista.  Read if you want.  If you're new to the business and need to get in, then just take the job and don't worry about what the long list of laid off folks on this board have to say.

Head out of my ass?  I didn't give an opinion one way or the other, I was just pointing out that a can of worms was just opened. (Remembering the strike at the Cariboo Vista stations, and the resulting thread(s) on this board.)

I have never worked for Vista, and have no comment, however, do a search on here for "Vista" and I'm sure you'll get some opinions from those who have or do work for Vista, or have or do work for Paul & Jason Mann.

Good luck with your new possible position.

Giggity.
