Television/Radio Reporter for Fort St. John, BC
OUTLINE OF POSITION:
Standard Radio in Fort St. John has a unique opportunity for someone with a “nose for news” that would like to practice both television and radio skills. The primary responsibility of the TV/Radio Reporter is to track down stories, attend news events and edit and produce stories for both radio and television. This is a full-time position with some week-end work as required. Located at our studios in Fort St. John, the TV/Radio Reporter will be part of a team of reporters and anchors covering the Northeast BC region from Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson and from the Rockies to the Alberta Peace.
RESPONSIBILITES:
1 Developing community contacts. 2 Attending news events, chasing stories and following up on files. 3 Editing and producing stories for television and radio on a daily basis 4 Working with team members to brainstorm story ideas and co-ordinate television coverage. 5 Occasionally traveling to smaller communities within our coverage area. 6 Daily phone checks with police, fire, ambulance, etc. 7 Weekly or monthly attendance at municipal governments, school district and regional district meetings. 8 Updating the websites with the latest news stories as soon as they come in.
COMPETENCIES:
1 Degree or Diploma from a recognized Broadcast/Journalism Program or equivalent experience- Must be extremely motivated and a self-starter. 2 Knowledge of Newsroom 4 or similar audio editing program 3 Experience and demonstrated ability operating an ENG camera and editing equipment. 4 Knowledge of Adobe Pro video editing suite or similar video editing system 5 The ability to work as part of a team 6 Strong communication, writing and creativity 7 Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines 8 A valid class 5 BC driver’s license (or equivalent).
