Q13 FOX Dominates Local News Ratings
KING-TV No Longer King of Late News in the Seattle/Tacoma Market
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Q13 FOX (KCPQ-TV Channel 13) is the Seattle television market's number one choice for late news, according to the March 2008 Nielsen Media Research rating survey. Q13 FOX News @ Ten is the most-watched weeknight late newscast, bringing in more total viewers than any other late news station in the market, including the 11 p.m. newscasts on KING-TV, KIRO-TV, and KOMO-TV, and the 10 p.m. newscast on KONG-TV. Q13 FOX News @ Ten was viewed by an average of 105,000 Persons 2+ per night, topping KING-TV’s average of 103,000 people per night.
Q13 FOX News had previously been considered a younger viewer’s newscast, but recent ratings data prove that the broadcast has become an important source for viewers of all demographics. Q13 FOX News @ Ten was the #1 weeknight late newscast among all of the major audience categories, including Persons 2+, Persons 18-34, Persons 18-49, Persons 25-49, Persons 25-54, Persons 35-54, Women 18-34, Women 18-49, Women 25-49, Women 25-54, Women 35-54, Men 18-34, Men 18-49, Men 25-49, Men 25-54, and Men 35-54.
In the most important demographic to local news advertisers -- Persons 25-54 -- Q13 FOX News @ Ten finished with a 3.2 rating for March, well ahead of second-place finisher KING-TV (2.6), and double the audience of our other late news competitors (with KIRO-TV at a 1.7, KONG-TV at a 1.6, and KOMO-TV at a 1.4). In the other major advertiser demographic -- Persons 18-49 -- Q13 FOX News @ Ten dominates with a 3.0 rating, while all of our competitors are under a 2 rating (KING 1.9, KOMO 1.4, KIRO 1.3, and KONG 1.2).
This is the first time that March demographic ratings have been available in this market, as Local People Meter measurement allows for 12-month and 365-day measurement. The previous meter/diary methodology only measured demographic data in the market during the “sweep” months of February, May, July, October, and November.
“Our performance up to and including March, particularly among our core audience of Adults 25-54, illustrates that Q13 FOX News has become the late news leader for viewers in the Seattle/Tacoma market," said Q13 FOX Vice President and General Manager Pam Pearson.
A leading source of local TV news in the Seattle-Tacoma area, Q13 FOX News currently broadcasts weekday mornings from 5 to 9 a.m. and nightly at 10 p.m. on Q13 FOX (KCPQ-TV Channel 13). The 10 p.m. news broadcast has dominated the ratings for the last eight months to become the leading prime-time newscast at 10 p.m. in the market. The news organization launched Q13 FOX News @ Nine on MyQ2 (KMYQ-TV Channel 22/Cable 10) last Monday, increasing local coverage to six hours every weekday.
“We are committed to bringing our viewers strong local coverage at the most convenient times possible,” said Q13 FOX News Director Steve Kraycik. “Our commitment to local news and more viewing options have helped make Q13 FOX News the leading choice for local information.”
