- Day One of the Terry Evans show on K-Rock was filled with callers congratulating Terry on his return to the airwaves, after a year off. Joining Terry on the show is Karen Kay (still best remembered as Jami Hendrix on The Bear, but with CFCW of late) and Melissa Wright, moving from noon hours to the morning show. K-Rock is staying with classic rock, but going more than one cut deep on yesteryear's rock albums.

- CISN's Bruce Bowie is back on the mean streets in support of the Hope Mission shelter. Tonight he'll pick bottles and sleep where he can. Tomorrow he'll eat and stay overnight at the Hope Mission, wrapping things up Thursday. It's Bruce's radiothon for the Hope Mission, which needs $600,000 a year just to keep the food coming from its kitchen for the homeless.

Call 453-3877 to support Bruce's worthy cause. (See blog for more radio news.)

SUMMER RADIO RATINGS

The never-taken-serious summer radio ratings are out.

All that's interesting is comparing the anomalies from the last "book" to this one.

The CBC's huge jump last time out was short-lived, as the MotherCorp has shrank right back to its usual 5-ish share or percentage of the audience.

More interesting, CISN's ratings are still an abnormal two to three points below its usual 8 to 9 share.

Otherwise, things are relatively normal with CHED (11.9 share), The Bear (11.6), EZ Rock (8.4) and JOE FM (8.2) in the top four spots.

The fall ratings - out in early December, will tell the true tale of who's hot and who's not in the local Edmonton radio market.

The Bear and EZ Rock have just officially been purchased by Astral Broadcasting from Standard Broadcasting. Doubt the new owners would mess with a winning formula.

THIRD HOST FOR BIG EARL MORNING SHOW

New voice on the Big Early, Big Earl's morning show.

"Billy Bob" (not his real name) was such a fan favourite as a caller that Big Earl invited him to leave the trucking business and join the station full time in the mornings with Tera Lee and Greg Shannon.

Doesn't happen that often in radio.
