Canada’s #1 Source for Radio Content Welcomes Talented New Broadcasting Team in Edmonton
courtesy of Milky. I gave the post a quick read of course, and I'm not sure when recent practicum students, barely capable overnighters and medium market graduates became "All Star Broadcasters" I've yet to hear the reports, guess they'll speak volumes as well. Welcome to the big town kids, but by no means are you all-stars yet. Or am I wrong? Wagers on how long before the competing aircraft pilots begin squaring off on the tarmac at the Muni? "You cut me off!!!" "Never leave your wingman!!!" "roger Roger, what's our vector Victor?" |

Very funny... Actually, the Skywords reports in Edmonton are being handled by Robyn Metcalf, who - if I'm not mistaken - is the national PD for Skywords. They actually sound pretty decent - and quality is way better too! Sounds like they're on a Marti or portable transmitter instead of the crappy radios that the CTN folks are on. |

The Skywords traffic reports are on CFCW, Big Earl, and Krock (which may be called something else by this time next week) and the two people who do them, mainly Robin, know what they are doing. I wonder if the Skywords contract is exclusive with Newcap, or whether other stations will be added in the near future. |

But wait - there are more signs of competence. From the Skywords site: "Want to be part of our inforamtion team, you can reach our traffic announces live with your traffic tip at the following numbers ..." http://www.skywordstraffic.com/traffic-spotters.htmlKids these days ... |

here's a good example of competency... PARRY SOUND - Former Parry Sound resident Mark Ideson is in intensive care following a helicopter crash Friday. Mr. Ideson, 30, was piloting a Canadian Traffic Network helicopter when it crashed into a field west of Cambridge around 5:30 p.m. Mr. Ideson and an unidentified flight engineer were taken to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries. “I don’t know for sure how he is doing,” said John Acello, vice-president of operations for the Canadian Traffic Network. ... “It would probably be irresponsible for me to guess (the cause of the accident),” said Mr. Acello. http://www.parrysound.com/press/1170876989/ |

I suspect at the least Mr. Acello knows how to spell liability. |

I had the pleasure of dealing with Ms Metcalf for a couple of years worth of Skywords out of Toronto. Typos aside, I found her to be a highly competent professional, always willing to do a bit extra to get the correct information to the listeners.Glad to hear she's brought her "A" game to Alberta. |
