Not sure whether he's on vacation or not, but Johnathon Love isn't on the Morning Show at California these days -- and he's nowhere to be found on the website...anybody know something about this?
While on that subject, I'm not overly familiar with the station but I did listen for a while yesterday while on vacation in the area. Annoucers are quite weak.
I believe Jonathan resigned to get back to his music career... and there's something brewing at California - with an application for a new format - but what? Does anyone have the scoop on this? What's in the works for them now?
Someone should go Country with only one Country station in town... how much could you lose? Okay there's two Country stations... but does AM 1060 count? There is room for another mainstream Country station to give 105 a run for their money.
There may be room for a second country FM station in Calgary, but Newcap might be jittery about taking that challenge. Big Earl hasn't done well in Edmonton against Corus' CISN. Even though CISN did poorly, for them, in the last book, Big Earl's numbers declined to a 2 share. There was no gain at CISN's expense. In fact, Newcap's AM country station in Edmonton, CFCW, long a ratings winner, is also doing poorly too. How long will Newcap go on with two country stations in Edmonton. Newcap must dream of the "glory days" of 96X. On the whole, though, the country format in Edmonton is on the decline, which is quite a surprise.

Urban cowboys love country music But they're not tuning in to hot new country on their radio dials
Perfect at Work Radio Station. I would begin by dumping California 103 name. The station is a sleeper that's why it gets no attention. Re package with a more up tempo. Get rid of John Tesh/third parties. How many companies allow office staff to listen to the radio. My friends say it's off the net and it's on real low.
California has got to go down in Canadian Radio History as the all round worst name for a radio station. Re-brand indeed, probably long overdue and keep the person who came up with the "California" handle out of it.

Thoughts...
Jonathon left because of money, just like every other morning person for the last two years. Watch for more changes including management and on air-staff.It's a sinking ship.
Do the listeners feel like there in California when in Alberta?
The station should have been named TEXAS 103, months ago. Texas and Alberta are political and social twins; anything other than conservatism is treason. Seriously, I hope Newcap comes up with a more appropriate name for 103 FM when they change formats.
