From Graham Hick's blog.........................
World FM radio re-vamps Out with the religion, in with multi-culturalism.
New owners, new management and World FM , l01.7 on the FM dial, becomes a new station after the Labour Day weekend.
Actually, it's not all that drastic. The ethnic hosts aren't changing. But all their programs are being standardized in the same timeslots. And both the gospel morning show and its host Wade Sorochan are kaput.
Come September 4, the new morning man is current sister-station Sonic FM's weekend host, Graham Scott, playing "world music." "Graham has an English accent," says one wag. "So he qualifies as ethnic."
The mid-morning slot will always be the Spanish show, Carazon Latino, hosted by Juan Caroca.
Noon to 1 p.m. will be the Italian show, Lunch With Leo, hosted by Leo Sorgiovanni who's been around CKER/World FM as long as Bryan Hall's been with CJCA/CHED.
The Chinese community will get four hours a day, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with host Grace Poon.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ukrainian host and station program director Roman Brytan holds forth with Radiozhurnal.
Seven to nine goes German, with host Christiane Gluth, then the East Indian community gets its daily fix with Shabbir Pathan's Radio South Asia running from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The other big deal, with Rogers Broadcasting now in charge. No more 50-year-old polkas.
Each show is going to be airing the current hits from the host countries. |
