From Hicks on Six (Edmonton Sun, July 25/07)
UNBELIEVEABLE
Do not trust the latest city radio ratings, the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (the BBMs), from the late spring that came out last week.
Much as we enjoy the CBC's quality local programming, like Peter Brown's RadioActive and Ron Wilson's Edmonton AM, it's quite impossible for CBC1 to jump from a seventh ranked station to second in mere months.
It can't be done. Even with the addition of its simulcast on the FM band.
Likewise, no reason exists for country powerhouse CISN-FM to drop from fourth to eighth, for CFCW to sink from ninth to 12th. Nothing drastic has happened at either station, country music didn't disappear and the third country station Big Earl was down as well.
The BBMs are based on a very small sampling of Greater Edmonton's radio listeners.
Unexplainable results from one rating period usually correct themselves in the next.
But if the same trends continue into the fall BBMs, then we'll get excited. |
