DOWNPOUR AT K-ROCK

It never rains but it pours.

Classic rock station K-Rock had to cope with a big drop in its reported spring listenership.

Now morning show veteran Steve Zimmerman is gonzo-alonzo.

Station manager Randy Lemay isn't saying too much, other than the departure is not ratings-related, and that the morning show will be going "in a different direction."

Our spies say a personality conflict between Steve and co-hosts Bill Cowen and Jim Jerome (who replaced Terry Evans last summer) has caused the split.

To my mind, Zimmerman is still one of the funniest guys on Edmonton radio.

Would Evans - who resigned for personal reasons last summer - return to the business?

Terry says he's perfectly happy with his new life as a truck owner/operator.

I dunno. You can take the boy out of radio. Can you take the radio out of the boy?

SUNSHINE AT THE BEAR

And when the sun shines, it really shines.

K-Rock competitor The Bear had its best ratings ever in the same listener survey.

This week, station program director Ryan Zimmerman (not related to Steve) was selected by some big radio analysis company in the U.S. as one of the "top 30 under 30" in radio - and he was the only Canadian. Meanwhile, Ryan has just been promoted from program director at The Bear to operations manager for The Bear and its sister stations EZ Rock and The Team.

Down pour??? How about Plane Crash! Is Lemay smart enough to call Evans back? Would he return? Hasn't it been almost a year since he "went on vacation" and then "retired"?

What a joke.  Steve Zimmerman was easily one of the funniest guys ever!  Jim Jerome should have been dumped... I can't see Steve and Bill not getting along.

But Jim... he's annoying.  Sometimes he has flashes of funny but those are few and far between.  It seems like he's always late too.  It's your job man... be there on time.

Is it just me?

My take on Jerome, is that he comes accross as he just does not give a dam about being there.....he is only there to hear himself talk about his relationship with The Great One....... He is they type that would say "ah so what"...i will live off my wife's pay.....he just shows no interest, at best he is a "third man"

If it's that bad at NC central in the Edm Mecca, I wonder how things are elsewhere?  Is it like this always in the east as well?

Truckin buisness slow Zippy...stop. really...your embarrassing yourself. Concertrate on something more important like your family...instead of publicly slamming people while hiding behind a cowardly username...very sad.

Hey okok,

I thought I was the only one who had figured out who Zippy really is.

That being the case, read all of WalterZipcut's posts on this board and you'll realize how truly strange he is.

Do people really quit jobs then spend all of their time privately and in this case, publicly fantasizing their bosses will beg them to come back?

Strange indeed.

I, too, couldn't agree more on the identity of Zippy! HA, what a laugh, however if someone has actual proof, I don't know what that would be but real PROOF. Lets see it, then we can all have a good laugh, sorta like he did when ol Bob Steele's wife fired off her letter to the Sun way back when, and he ripped him and her on the air. CLOWN.

Don't see that happen often.

BTW, Ryan Smyth? Mark Messier? Really. Mike Comrie would be more accurate.

So, maybe Terry Evans has been found out.  The problems at K-ROCK go beyond the quality of its morning show.  Newcap has its hands full trying to save the classic rock format in the Edmonton market. Changes are coming, I'm sure.  I wonder how far it will go?

For what it's worth.....I like Terry Evans. I enjoyed what he did on the air, from his K97 days onward.   He was always cordial to me, and I think that line-up they had with Kenyon and Stu, and the rest sounded pretty damm good.  They all have gone on to great things, and if he wants to 'drive a truck' .... why not!  It's your 'life' that counts.  It would be great to hear him back on the air somewhere though and I'm sure if he wants that, it'll happen.

Evans gave me a bike when he was at the Bear. Mine was stolen. Nothing on air, just a good thing for a kid that was having a bad time.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That is both the lamest and funniest thing I've ever heard...thanks Terr!!!! I've also heard the guy is fishin', throwin out lines seeing if anyone will bite! Bet not, couldn't keep it down and now he may not work in this town again. Lots of opportunity for a guy with his cred, but it may not be here.

I agree 100% - I can see how Steve Z could rub some people the wrong way but he is a funny guy and made the show. Jim Jerome missed his first day of work and I always felt he would rather be somewhere else than on the air.

Hope to hear Steve back on the air somewhere soon.

I'd like to hear Terry Evans AND Steve Zimmerman again. They were a damn good laugh on the way to work in the morning. That new morning show is so wholesome it makes me want to up-chuck!

Too bad they hate each other's guts. Both of them have burned down thier radio bridges in this market. My guess is nobody was sad to see either of them leave the Bear or K-rock.

Gord's right. Terry is a good guy, and he did a good job. Now he has another job and I'm sure he'll do that well too. All we can do is hope he likes what he's up to.

I really don't think driving truck 2 days a week, 8 days a month pays 5k?  Given the cost of fuel, truck finance charges, repair bills etc. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CUT THAT BY SIXTY PERCENT for the p/t driver. I can see Evans making 5k.

Man, what a small world, eh Zippy...?
Did your dad happen to ask Terry what he's paying out, or was he talking to the "2nd driver"?
Jeez, if Evans is actually paying what this guy claims he is- he's either the best boss ever, or he's about to run his trucking gig into the ground due to bad management... either way though... if he's still hiring, I know a guy!

So according to Graham Hicks at the Sun, the morning show is gone, and only Ross will be back - Jim Jerome and Bill Cowen are gone.  The morning show link is off of the K-Rock website.  Guess we wait until next Monday to see what emerges....
