the new newcap station in bonnyville has begun testing.....it's at 101.3 fm....not sure of the radius or signal strength but it comes in loud and clear in cold lake, about 1/2 hour away......they are playing a mix of tunes - queen, gwen stefani, coldplay - it's very much like the 'fox' format they run in brooks and edson.....current fm signals in the area are the goat in lloyd with it's mix of classic rock and todays heavier stuff, k-rock in cold lake with it's classic rock and the aboriginal station....on the am side, it's st.paul with it's cat country signal and 790 cfcw with it's country format.....the signal from wayne fm in wainwright or key 83 in wainwright don't reach this area.....still to come is the cat country signal from new cap's lac la biche station...not sure when they'll begin testing or even if they're up and running.....i should have included the cbc am and fm are also available in the area
Part of me says yes...part of me says no...Newcap wants to crush them...but we need Independant Broadcasters to keep the large companies honest...Healthy Competition is good...but I am not sure if Newcap plays fair in the rural areas
I'm pretty comfortable in saying that the Goat won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and if they decide to sell, it'll be on their own terms. They still have a lot of cash going through that place...

a few years back, the goat and newcap were at the table and apparently only a million and change apart from newcap buying the goat.....the deal never did come off so newcap followed up with the big change at cksa ( now lloyd fm ), the move to setup the bonnyville station ( kool 101.3 ), wayne fm and the synergy between newcaps lloyd tv station and their north east alberta properties.....newcap also moved to squash the tardiff station in whitecourt.....word was goat management had something to do with that attempt to set up in whitecourt by tardiff.....despite all this, the goat remains strong in northeast alberta as their programming and community involvement are superior to other stations in the area.....
From what I've heard Newcap isn't going to be going into BBM's this fall...for any of their stations in the midwest or lakeland. Mind you...CKSA was the only station that was rated last fall. Take it for what it is worth.

in the past when ever the northeast was rated, newcap just assumed the section classed as 'others' was their stations - cat country, k-rock in cold lake etc......
