I'm sure you've probably checked out Milkman Unlimited and seen the "talent for hire" section.  

Has ANYONE ever landed a job through this service?  Has a PD EVER read one of those and hired someone?  

For an industry that requires initiative, hard work, networking, and persistence, putting a personal ad on a website seems like a really lazy approach.   So I'm curious if it's ever landed anyone work.

Never hired anyone from there but have checked it out on occasion just to see if I know anyone.  Seems to be a lot of people unwilling to leave Southern Ontario.  Good on 'em I guess.

Considering I got my first job in Radeyo from THIS message board, I would think more than a few people have landed gigs from the free posts on Milky.

It's a good place to go to find out who knows "You're" from "Your".

Emailed someone on there a few years ago asking for a demo and never got a reply.

I was wondering the same thing.  It seems like there are a LOT of posts.  I love the ones that say "for a resume or demo, please e-mail".   It's hard enough trying to get a PD to call or e-mail back when there IS a job available, let alone when there isn't.   I also suspect that most PD's and department heads have very little time to look through classified ads on line.

It's the house prices that scare off a lot of broadcasters looking to BC and Alberta.I own a very nice  3 bdrm southern Ontario home with a big yard that I bought four years ago. If I sold it tomorrow, even with the nifty fifty thousand dollars more that it should be worth now, there is no way I could afford even a condo in Vancouver or the lower mainland.

That said though,I'm going into a sixth full year at my current on-air gig, which I discovered on MMU during an extended"on the beach" period . I would like to get back to a milder climate though, so if anyone needs a jock or programmer in BC ( or the deep south tropics..wink...) be caller number nine.

I've landed a couple of jobs that way & had several offers to consider over the years. It all depends on how you write the ad.

Give your head a shake. To post on Milky is the best thing you can do. It's read by thousands of broadcasters a day. The old days you had to mail your demo to every station in the country from a station list book. I know several people who have gotten emails from PD to send demo after posty on Milky. Remember it's all in the eway you set the tone on the post.  Maybe you should start the networking process by posting on Miky.

I've gotten a few offers from using the talent 4 hire section.  But mainly I've noticed it's in smaller markets or markets that aren't...  We'll say picturesque.  I think it's probably hard for PD's to find good hardworking talent in certain markets.  So why not try your hand at the talent for hire section.

You can see why your not working. Given the wide scope Milkman reaches. "You think you will give it a try" Good luck. You forget that Milkman pretty well updats every PD by email of news flashes in the biz. Go back to sleep let someone who is serious about a career move forward. Some people just don't do the research. After all it is the number one go to site for Canadian radio. You should be so lucky he's even offering a hand up. Milkman a broadcaster himself offers that space read by PD & GM'S.

Wow...I think someone got out of bed on the wrong side.  As for what I posted, I was just agreeing that your earlier post was rather funny.  And for your information I do have a job already and I don't need to be scolded by someone who thinks they're someone because they spend(waste) their day blogging.  As for the 'I think I'll try it' comment, it had never occured to me that it might be an option so I was just stating it...that's all.

I thoght that you were eager to leave your 'ego by the door'...guess I was wrong.

Most of my day is not blogging if you look at my times posted. No offence wished or taken.
