I'm guessing this book is for after the Canucks season ended, and if that's the case I think the Team1040 did a decent book. They made huge gains getting the Canucks and kept the majority of their listeners in the off-season.
CKNW, making gains surprised me, I expected them to continue their slow decline. I was guess-timating, that they would have a high 8 or a low 9.
CFUN being up, although marginally surprised me as well, I think one more book on the decline and they would have been looking at a format change, perhaps to newstalk in order to try to take on CKNW. This book might save their infotainment format, for at least 1 more book.
Jack on the upswing a bit surprising, they had declined in the last 3 books. The Beat still looking very strong. Z makes slight gains, however this is no indication of Crave.

As far as CFUN goes, Shane Foxman is pretty decent, he has improved his shtick, and seems more engaging. Not as strong as Pia of course, but good in small doses.
Yeah, I find Shane Foxman to actually be pretty good on CFUN. I actually enjoyed him in small doses on Mojo, really enjoyed him when he was just a sub on the Team, and although I'll admit that I dont' listen to a lot of CFUN, when I do I usually find him pretty entertaining.
"This book INCLUDED Canucks playoff hockey, so I'm sure there's some dissapointment there."
it gotta be a major disappointment. once again, it not just all about the rating, it about the big picture.
the jocks might be focused on the rating like its a game, but what do you think CTV head office is thinking when you consider the big bucks they paid for the Canucks rights...
Nine Canuck games during this period. I guess people dont listen to games on the radio during the playoffs.
Yeah, I think it's more than likely that people make a point of being home, or at least in front of a TV to watch the games. With a long season people are willing to listen to a game on the radio, they aren't going to leave work early for a mid January game against Minnesota, but when the playoffs come it's destination television.
I've always found the Summer book to be the least important of the 3 books, so I think the Fall book will be a better indication of the Team 1040's success with the Canucks.

9 games won't do much for a 2 month ratings period. It *might* show that for 9 evenings... TEAM did well, the the listeners returned to their primary station which would be most likely sprinkled over many music FMs.
I work at a music FM and during hockey nights, I take calls all evening how to find the hockey game on AM... people don't even know how ot operate their AMs anymore, I have to give them a crash course. Just from that little interaction with people... I believe that CORUS made a mistake letting the Canucks leave the "brother" station of Rock 101 and CFOX as lots of *their* listeners are now heading over to CHUM in the evenings...
As for people who say that a ratings book isn't important... I have trouble understanding the logic. With so few ratings periods in this country, EVERY book is a major indicator. From reading the US board, the ad buyers base success and failure over four book averages... so if Vancouver gets three books, then you NEED every one to tell your story. Also, the broadcasters pay for the survey, so if it *really* was not important, then why would any radio sttaion agree to pay for it?
