WABC's PPM Listening Jumps On Imus Debut (from RadioInk.com)
NEW YORK -- December 10, 2007: According to Arbitron's "special tabulation" of New York Portable People Meter data, the number of PPMs reporting exposure to Citadel's WABC/New York on the morning of Don Imus' debut was up 87 percent over the average for the previous 10 Mondays.
Imus returned to the airwaves on December 3, eight months after being fired for calling members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air. WABC saw the biggest gain in PPM exposure -- 251 percent -- in Imus' first quarter-hour back on the air, from 6-6:15 a.m. The numbers fluctuate after that, showing gains of 38 percent to 168 percent, with a low of 33 percent in the show's final quarter-hour, from 9:45-10 a.m.
Arbitron notes that these figures are based on raw counts of meters that recorded exposure to WABC during Imus' show and haven't been weighted or qualified for in-tab status. The company says, "These [numbers] should only be taken as a general indication of the radio audience behavior in light of a change in programming."
The next New York pre-currency survey, covering November 15-December 12, is due out on December 31. |
