What do you think of the logo?

CKKO Kelowna released its new logo.

K963 is Kelowna's Classic Rock.

Appears to be a winner not even out the gate yet.

The Lizard had a great logo ... was it copywrited? Any word on the announcer line up?

one of the few times branding your station "K" doesn't piss me off.

the colours remind me of the lake... says the name, freq and what they do, so I guess it work.

Ok I can be honest, they called me, several times, and I had to say sorry.  I would only work in two types of music.  Country or Western.

By the way, what year are we at now for the top end for a song to be considered "classic rock"?

So, this might be an ignorant question from someone who's never worked/lived in BC, but is Kamloops/Kelowna a really big draw for jocks??  I mean, company, salary, etc aside, is the AREA a big draw for jocks??  I've heard the weather and everything is nice, beauty golf courses, etc....

It's also a great place if you like boating, skiing, sun tanning, REALLY hot summers, insanly slow summer traffic, what seems like non-stop sunshine....so it's really what you're into.  Working at what was THE LIZARD...it was a blast.  Going out on the lake and having fun...who else has that as part of their job?  It can be a lot of fun.  But the summer traffic is REALLY a pain.  Getting anywhere in the summer can take what seems like hours....

I understand it's an expensive place to live now...rent and housing prices are pretty high...

I remember the expression being the Okanagan being full of Newlyweds and Nearly Deads.  There used to be the infamous Sunshine Tax as well.  Don't know if that is still the case.  I sure do miss it since I moved away though.

I love Kelowna... and I got soft spot in my heart for Kamloops.

You could do much worse than either of those towns if you get a gig that'll pay you enough to enjoy some beach, beers, bikini clad ladies and some shredding in the winter.

Interesting.  The 'rents just retired out to Kamloops and are always have been hassling me for some time to try and snag something a little closer to them, so I was curious.

Thanks for the input gang!!

It's either Vista (yikes) or Sun Country Cable. If I remember right, it was a couple of old boys who had a station there, sold it and got licenced for another one. I think one used to be mayor.

It is indeed Sun Country Cable, and Walter Gray is involved and was the former Mayor of Kelowna... been all over the papers and radio in the Okanagan.

I'd be careful on what you read on PSR... I personally know two people that work for Vista and LOVE it.  After tlaking to them, I changed my position on the company that I had based only on what I had read on this board.

Having two people that like it is WAY more creditable then listening to the dozens that seemed to have disliked their Vista experience. Nice job Flamethrower!!!  Thank you.

Poppa...the only way you are really going to find out is working for them yourself...but that would be true with any company.

Determinations

Based on all of the foregoing, the Commission approves the following application for a broadcasting licence to operate a new radio station in Kelowna:
Sun Country Cablevision Ltd.
Application 2007-0846-4, received 4 June 2007

The terms and conditions of licence for this new service are set out in Appendix 2 to this decision.

In addition, the Commission approves in part the following application for a broadcasting licence to operate a new radio station in Kelowna:
Vista Radio Ltd.
Application 2006-0931-5, received 18 July 2006

So there's going to be 7 radio stations serving Kelowna???? With TV and newspapers...that's going to be mighty thin pickens for revenue...or am I missing something here?

Didn't say they were no good Poppa, just said "yikes". I agree with Flamer - don't go with too much that you read on here. Just my two cents. I know people that have worked for them and those that still do. Some like it, some don't. Obviously if EVERYONE disliked working for them, they'd have no staff.

Good programmer (Jason Mann), questionable VP (Paul Mann). Lots of turnover for a young company, some REALLY questionable management appointments in a lot of their markets. One market went on strike last year (Williams Lake), one had an entire department walk out (Duncan), they're BC with one Alberta stick, applying for licences in almost every market that comes up. Recently announced a program that said they were going to put a recruiting effort forward to hire immigrants that had worked in broadcasting in other countries. Everyone has their own opinion on that.

Will Kelowna be good? Maybe. It all depends on who they put in charge of the operation and how much corporate gets involved.

Good luck if that's where you choose to go. Let us know how it works out!

And yes, I've heard good things about FREE. I remember Pete as a pretty nice guy and knows his stuff.

Hahahaha... Zane, that was some funny stuff - well timed and not the least bit "ackward". I'm sure all the Vista people in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat got a good chuckle as well.

Well, you were close there, luckydog, except Dallas Gray and Garry Barker aren't working for Walter Gray - they're working for Vista if you had actually read this thread. Walter is Sun Country which will be a totally different station (and company). This is the type of info that screws up the youngsters when they're looking feedback.
