Hey - I've caught a new Sport guy on CBC Radio 1's afternoon show recently - Ross Bragg (sp?). He sure sounds like a rookie and quite nervous. I've heard him do several mispronunciations over the 3 broadcasts I've heard.
Now, if he's an apprenticing BCIT student (or something like that), I've got no issues. We were all rookies once and the only way to learn the ropes is to get on with it. Keep on trying. I'd appreciate if the show's host (name?) would make mention of that - even make a joke out of it - to make poor Ross relax. Perhaps that was done and I missed it.
On the other hand, if he's a Pro and landed this job over other suitable candidates, then I've got a problem. I would think that there would be a host of experienced, available Sports guys for this job or someone in a smaller market that would be more ready for a big market jump.
I suppose a 3rd option is that perhaps he's the show engineer that moonlights as the sports guy (like the former sports guy - Chris Robertson?) to save the CBC (and ultimately you and I) some $$. If that's the case then perhaps its time to invest in some add'l broadcasting lessons for Mr. Bragg so the experience is better.
Ross - If you're reading this, I hope you take my comments professionally rather than personally. I'm sure you're a great fella. This board is to discuss Radio in general and this is on my mind. |
