E-mail overload has a lot of people firmly by the neck, and according to executive coach Marsha Egan, the problem has reached crisis proportions, with companies losing millions of dollars a year because of diminished productivity. As well, many e-mail users exhibit compulsive behavior, checking for new messages far too often and freaking out when they don’t have any -- and even resorting to sending e-mail to themselves. So, Egan has set up a 12 step “emailaholics” program; just like AA, the first step is admitting that there’s a problem. Then, self-discipline is required: for one thing, you have to make sure that the inbox is empty before you go home, lest the situation spiral out of control again tomorrow. Egan is also planning a monthly teleconference for e-mailers anonymous. Read more at CNN -- after you answer your e-mail. |
