In commenting about the passing of the co-founder of the Drake format it dug up a lot of names of people I worked with in Summer 1970 at CJME in Regina. Are any of these dudes still in the business 40 years later...perhaps you know. Here's the line-up I worked with... Hart Kirsch, Mornings. I think my Afternoon Drive Newsman Glen Gary Darling moved to Mornings when Bruce Northrum moved to my shift. Then I think Johnny Onn was still mid-days. Can't remember the early afternoon guy (as we had 3 hour shifts) then I, Scott Shannon (thanks to Hart for the name) from 3-6... then it was William Beigh Bell (Gary Bell) from 6-12 and Colin Sanders All Nights.

"Jeff" Massie "All Night Record Man" CFUN 1959

I am hoping to find G. E. Jeff Massie. I met him in P.E.I. many years ago when he was in the Can. Air Force. He lived in Toronto for a while, then returned to Vancouver. His radio show was probably part time work, as he became a civilian Air Traffic Controller and did work again in Toronto in the early 60's. His radio show was called "All Night Record Man" in 1959 on CFUN in Vancouver.

Jeff would now be in his 70's and (I assume) retired. Last time I spoke to him, he was returning to Vancouver from Toronto. (Perhaps he no longer lives in B.C., or may even have passed away).

He would know me by my maiden name, Eccles.

Anne Glazier anneglazier@hotmail.com

Lew passed away yesterday
and the business lost a true 'character'

Roskin, Lewis (1920- 2009)

Except for a stint in the Canadian Army, Lewis Roskin remained a "career broadcaster". At 17, he was an announcer specializing in sports at CJOC Lethbridge. In the ensuing 9 years, Lew learned everything he needed to know to set up and manage the program department of CJOB - Jack Blick's brand new radio station in Winnipeg which was launched in 1946.

In 1947, he went to CFRN in Edmonton as Program Director, and two years later to Dawson Creek, B.C. as General Manager of CJDC. 1954 found Lew as General Manager of the venerable CFCN in Calgary. A year later, he was back in Edmonton as Assistant Manager and General Sales Manager of CHED. Five years later, in 1961 he moved to Vancouver, to become General Manager of CKLG.

Another challenge opened up in Edmonton as Lew and his associates obtained a licence for the new station. CHQT - an AM station with "FM-type" programming. Lewis Roskin was the President and General Manager. In 1992, Lew opted for semi-retirement and formed a consulting company (Roskin Communications) to act as an advisor to CJCA Edmonton and others in Vancouver.

Whether in Winnipeg or Vancouver or points in-between, Lew took on an active role in community affairs. Similarly, he was prominent in promoting the best interests of Canadian broadcasters. He served two terms as president of the Broadcasters' Association of Alberta, two terms as a director of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and one term as president of the Western Association of Broadcasters; and he became a well-qualified member of the CAB's Half-Century Club.

In 1984, Lew received the Golden Jubilee Award of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. In 1985, the Ad Club of Edmonton named him "The Advertising Man of the Year".

In 2000, Lewis Roskin was inducted into the CAB Broadcast Hall of Fame.

                                                              Written by J.
Interesting ad by Chuck on Milkman, looking for work and listing his extensive resume.
I would wager Monty Hall would view Chuck's time on Let's Make a Deal as not exactly his 'co-host', that Chuck portrays.
I recall Chuck dressing up like a baby, and countless other funny characters on the show, as well as being the announcer.
