Hi Folks just came in to Puget Sound after scanning the pages on and off for a few years. My name is Del Phillips. I spent my 1st years in Radio at CHPQ Parksville with Rolly Gillis and Charlie Fleming. J.Marc Webber did the " Rock Show " every thursday night from CHPQ, sometimes doing a simulcast via scratchy phoneline with his buddies at CKDA. I started in October 1975 til August 1978. I was a fill in guy at CHUB throughout that time too. Spent the next year at CJAV with a few of us who were " headhunted " from CHUB/PQ by then manager Ike Patterson. I was recruited along with Charlie Fleming, J.Marc Webber and Dave Marnoch. We made the big move over the hump. Just found out today that Ike passed away 2 months ago. J.Marc Webber went on to work at CFUN in the 80s, the ethnic station in Vancouver, and finally reached his goal. He became a broadcaster for CHUM Toronto. He was the voice of the Weather Network on TV for years, and the stadium announcer at Skydome for the Argonauts football team. He died of cancer in 2008. Just fishing to see if there are any listeners/employees from that time. Rolly Gillis is retired in Penticton. Charlie Fleming has won many director and acting awards in BC theatre, he's in Kelowna. I've lost track of Dave Marnoch, would love to hear any news of his whereabouts. I went back to CHUB/PQ in 1980. Joined Rolly and Charlie in 1981 as we launched Ralph Robinson's Great Valleys Radio CIGV-FM Penticton. I ended up as a staff announcer/operator at CBC Prince Rupert in 1983, retired from radio in 1994. I work for BC Ferries now. Glad for the forum, thanks

For those who knew Terry when he was still behind the mic in Saskatoon at CJWW.
I just discovered that he passed away last summer at age 59.
Terry was the morning guy when I first started in the biz in Saskatoon. I enjoyed working with him; he had lots of stories about his father, Red, who was a legend in Winnipeg.
I didn't work with him long, but I remember him as a guy with good ideas and a sense of humour.
It seems that lately, as I google my old friends, I'm discovering that too many of them have passed on without my taking the time to see them despite my occasional best intentions.
Gang, take time to look up your old friends. You never regret the phone calls and emails you DO make.

Dave

Back in the early '90s, the former Satellite Radio Network (based out of the Rogers building on Ash street) ran this special as a part of its Christmas programming. It consisted of soft music punctuated by theoretical news reports which followed the story of the birth of Jesus over a 24-hour period. the production included a sizeable cast of characters, including Steve Ivings and Campbell McCubbin. The "reporters" used Arabic-sounding names, such as Simon Ben Ghurian and Luke Rabene, to create a sense of authenticity I would suspect. I was only a kid when I listened to this program, but looking back on it now, it was a wonderful example of theatre of the mind radio. Does anyone still have a copy of this special? Would love to see it resurrected here on PSR!

In commenting about the passing of the co-founder of the Drake format it dug up a lot of names of people I worked with in Summer 1970 at CJME in Regina. Are any of these dudes still in the business 40 years later...perhaps you know. Here's the line-up I worked with... Hart Kirsch, Mornings. I think my Afternoon Drive Newsman Glen Gary Darling moved to Mornings when Bruce Northrum moved to my shift. Then I think Johnny Onn was still mid-days. Can't remember the early afternoon guy (as we had 3 hour shifts) then I, Scott Shannon (thanks to Hart for the name) from 3-6... then it was William Beigh Bell (Gary Bell) from 6-12 and Colin Sanders All Nights.
