Blood-letting at the Edmonton Journal Thursday, with the start of layoffs from new owners. Rumours are staffing levels will be reduced by half of what they were just a few years ago.

New radio station The Sound officially joins the crowded radio spectrum on Monday morning, spies say, at 95.7 FM. Mum's the word on the on-air personalities, but expect the morning host to be Ryan Bradley. His last stop was mid-days at JOE-FM.

The changing media: Social media innovator Walter Schwabe of Fusedlogic.com has long played with website based Edmonton stories/news. Now Schwabe is "crossing platforms." Getting Social With Schwabe - a show about exploring social media - is running on radio station TEAM AM 1260 on Saturdays at 7 a.m. ... archived and always available as well at Fusedlogic.com.

A few changes to local radio

Geez, a guy goes on a couple of weeks vacation and the face of country radio in the Regina radio undergoes some interesting changes. If you listen to either Big Dog 92.7 or Country 100, you've probably noticed the absence of some on-air personalities.

At Big Dog, Paul O’Neil and Tyler Veronelly are no longer with the station. Apparently Paul resigned, went on a couple weeks holiday and is now employed at Capital Ford. Paul had been with Big Dog since January 2008 as music director/assistant program director/afternoon host.

Tyler, who also was one of Big Dog’s original on-air personalities, has moved on to 90.3 AMP, an adult contemporary station in Calgary that plays rock, pop, hip hop and dance music.

At Country 100, Dustin Dion has left the radio business -- he’s now the sales and marketing manager for Century West Homes in Regina.

Change is a part of life and it will be interesting to see how the stations will fill the vacancies in the coming weeks.
