Veteran Vancouver broadcaster Red Robinson has been informed by the President of the University of the Fraser Valley that he will be presented with an honorary degree at the university's commencement ceremonies on June 15th at 9:30 a.m. at the Abbotsford campus.
President Mark Evered informed Red that he will receive a doctorate of letters for his volunteer services to society.
Red has received many community awards over the years including the Canada 125 medal, inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame, The Toastmaster International community and leadership award, multi-awards from the B.C.Lions society for his 23 years raising over $100 million for that charity including naming a floor at Easter Seal House in Vancouver, The Showmanship ShowCanada award presented by the movie exhibitors of Canada.
A broadcast scholarship in his name at B.C.I.T.
In 1991 Red became ambassador to the tourism initiative Music '91.
He has also received the Queen's Golden Jubilee award. The list goes on.
Upon hearing that he was chosen for this prestigious award Red commented," it came as a complete surprise and I am greatly honoured that they thought of me".
