The big boys moving in, buying up all the little stations and newspapers/magazines across the land, then running them all from Central Canada

Agreed but what's the answer?

Simple.  Independence.  Just like the booming masses of new unsigned indie talent that promote their music through  social media, net labels and fan sites giving them the freedom and income to choose their own course without the weight and control of collection leeches.  Same thing can apply to radio ...go internet.  No towers, no regulatory red tape and a level playing field for all.    Just saying.
