Listeners Give Generously in Support of
the Capital Cares Radiothon

Darryl Szafranski from Northlands & Capital FM's Rob Christie

EDMONTON (JUNE 15, 2012) – Capital FM listeners gave generously today raising just over $70,000 in support of the 2nd Annual Capital Cares Radiothon. Callers heard wish stories from children, families, and volunteers and were inspired to donate to help Make-A-Wish fulfill their goal of granting a wish for every eligible child in Northern Alberta.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community,” says Cathy Gabucci, Executive Director for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta, “to all those that called in, dropped by, issued challenges, and pledged their support, from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.”

The radiothon was presented by Capital FM and the Edmonton Sun. “We are so grateful to have the support of these organizations. This kind of awareness is what makes wishes possible, helping with referrals, volunteerism, and of course, donations,” says Gabucci. Phones rang throughout the day as the announcers encouraged the community to call in and pledge their support. John Roberts, Program Director for Capital FM, states “It was an extremely rewarding day for everyone at Capital FM and Newcap Radio. We’re proud to have been able to work with Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta in their efforts to grant even more deserving kids their wish.”

Thank you to the many sponsors that helped make this day a success: Capital FM, the Edmonton Sun, JB's Power Centre, Sherwood Dodge, Montana's Cookhouse, and Tom Luzzi at snowbirdaz.com.
100% of the radiothon proceeds support Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta – granting the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions.

Wishes like Anna and Jayden who wished to go to Disney World, Justin and Karly who wished to have bedroom makeovers and Stephie and Jolene who wished to swim with dolphins.
