and the show is called "Wired Mornings with Toby and Sasha" on Wired 96.3 in Saskatoon
Toby hails from Red Deer Alberta, having graduated under the tutelage of Don Scott (and Barry Drake RIP) at Western Academy Broadcasting College (WABC) in Saskatoon in January of 2010.
His first job in radio was in Swan River, Manitoba doing Afternoon Drive on CJ 104.5 "The Voice of the Valley" After one month Stillwater broadcasting asked if he'd like to host mornings on their new station launching in Neepawa Manitoba, CJ 97.1 "The Voice of the Heartland"
Having graduated from WABC, he then cut his teeth hosting mornings as a solo act which included writing, reading news, copy writing and production. Needless to say Toby had become somewhat disenchanted with the industry to a point, what with the work load and the low pay. Sound familiar???
Things began to look up once he got a call from Jeff Murray (PD of Newcap Alberta east) who offered him an internship at their station in Wainwright, 93.7 Wayne FM doing evenings and weekends. Before long he moved into Mid-Days. Nine months later he took over the morning slot at Kool 101.3 in Bonnyville, Alberta, still with Newcap and under the direction of Jeff Murray.
When he heard Wired in Saskatoon had an afternoon gig opening up, he put together a demo and Andy Ross who was then PD at Wired (now PD at Classic Rock 101 in Vancouver) called and asked if Toby would like to work mornings with Ryder (now mornings at Sonic Nation in Vancouver)
He didn't really feel he was ready for mornings and almost declined the offer, but decided to step out of the boat and accepted the position, only to learn on his first day on the show, he was to replace Ryder who had just landed his Vancouver gig. Somewhat overwhelmed to say the least, especially since Ryder had won the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster Of The Year Award In Memory Of Steve Young 6 months earlier, and Toby only being out of school for 18 months was still unsure he was ready to take prime time on the station, yet accepted the challenge and is greatful he did.
Toby's life has change and tells us he's had nothing but a great time at Wired 96.3 and loves the industry.
PSR would like to thank Toby for playing along with us by using his Facebook pic and posting it. For awhile, he thought we were being somewhat facetious. Who me?! NEVER! ;)
