The evening anchor on Global Edmonton tonight (don't know her name) just tried to say Auld Lang Syne talking about Robbie Burns Day.  It came out Alled Lang Zing.  And she said it with such confidence.  I rewound (?) on the PVR just to make sure I caught it right.  Scary stuff.

I have certainly mispronounced words myself - but this one just knocked me over.  Enough to come here to tell you about it.

No worse than when the leader of North Korea died I heard various outlets call him 'Kim Jong the Second'

Maybe she worked at INEWS 880 at one time.  lol  What always has bugged me is when radio or tv people mispronounce Moscow by say "moss - cow"  when in fact it is 'moss-coe.

CTV BC's week-end anchor Jina You has her share of mispronunciations. When the Greek crisis was daily news fodder Jina on several occasions managed to pronounce the then Greek PM's name as George "Papandroh".

Let me tell a mispronunciation story on myself -many many years ago as a young tv anchor in Kelowna reading a story about the Molybdenum mine in nearby Peachland....what should have come out as "mol-ib-dee-nəm" came out as "molly-be-denim".

Most recent one I've heard came from News1130 a week ago. The incident happened in "PUGG-et Sound."

Priceless.

Could have been worse though for those from the East trying to pronounce Juan de Fuca Strait !

Bill Good on CKNW is always mispronouncing names. Proves he never reads the copy before his 8am news-read.

Actually, later in the broadcast she said that was her attempt at a Scottish accent.

Here's one from the "Pronunciation Hall of Infamy"....I heard it many, many years ago on a radio station in Montana....reporting on a story from London, UK the reader referred to the River "Thaimes"....yes, you heard it here first.  Another one I heard one time was a reference to eeev vuh purr ated milk....ouch! Another, very common one that is still widely mispronounced even today is the word "Asphalt"....how many times have I heard it referred to as "ASHphalt"....wrong folks, wrong...there is no "h" in the word....I could continue, but perhaps some other time....
