Fight HST - Message from Bill Vander Zalm

Dear Fight HST Supporter,

It’s been quite a week! A lot of positive press coverage around the province for our Citizens Initiative to repeal the HST. Just as exciting is we have received another 250 volunteer registrations since Thursday for canvassers! This is all good news, and it shows that British Columbians have not accepted the HST and are realizing there is a way to stop it.

But Friday on the Bill Good Show, Vaughn Palmer, Keith Baldry and Bill were trying to convince British Columbians that we don't have a chance. They were trying to say we are wasting our time and that we'll never succeed. They even seemed to enjoy taking personal shots at me for some reason, though they all claim they don't agree with the HST. Makes you wonder sometimes if they are trying to have their cake and eat it too!

To win - we all need to do two things:

1. We need to call in to these programs, and write letters to the editor when we see them trying to demoralize our efforts. We need to counter their negativity by overwhelming the Liberals and their naysayers with the conviction of our cause. (Be aware that when you call in to shows like Bill Good that they screen the calls so they don't get people expressing opinions they don't want to hear). The more we show we are out there, the more momentum our petition will receive.

2. We need everyone to get their family, friends, neighbours and contacts to sign up at our web site http://www.fighthst.com to canvass for signatures. If we have 50 people in every riding, we would only need 100 signatures per canvasser. We would have all the signatures we needed in a week! NOW is the time to begin the drive. No one will do it for us.

Linked is a poster advertising the Initiative Petition, and our need for canvassers. Please forward this to all your contacts with a personal note from you to sign up at our web site" http://www.fightHST.com and help.

Also, please print the poster out and place it at work, your business, in restaurants, grocery stores, fence posts, wherever people will see it!

Thank you for your support! Together, we will defeat the HST.

Bill Vander Zalm
Leader

This is coming from the guy that took off the rent ceiling in the mid 80's and destroyed downtown Vancouver ! give me a break   I remember living in English Bay in a one bedroom and paying $375 a month ' then he took off the rent ceiling for landlords and the day after i had a piece of paper under my door stating i had 3 months to cough up $580 a month. Gee only a $205 monthly increase " thats fair "   It was his plan to fill downtown Vancouver with only wealthy folk ' it didn't work Bill.

I'm sympathetic to your previous plight with the Vander Zalm administration of over 25 years ago, however the landscape has changed dramatically and Mr. Vander Zalm is no longer the Premier.

My question to you Cowboy, do you agree or disagree with the HST?

More important is that reporters Palmer and Baldrey, along with Bill Good appear to be solidly in the Campbell camp and you seem to ignore that part of this story.

It makes me wonder what kind of a 'plum' Gordon Campbell will award these three obedient communicators for their 'balanced' reporting.

Good has always been a yes man in favour of those in political power, what amazes me is Palmer and Baldrey have not only fallen into the same category, but look very comfortable in their positions.

It's a shame we can't boot the three of them out come next election as well.

Keep in mind there will be a major exodus from BC by the film industry if the HST doesn't happen.  Maybe BC can find another industry to replace it but might not happen that quickly.

I think the tax is insane !  what once was a 7% tax in some provinces will now be 14% ' so my answer is ' even Bart Simpson on acid would not do this in this economy let alone any economy.

I much preferred Emerson, Lake & Palmer. At least their pretensions were entertaining.

Yes, it is tempting to write off Baldrey, Good & Palmer as in-the-bag hacks for Gordo. But I can't go that far, at least for two of them.

Palmer, in particular, has too frequently detailed the policy backflips and contraditions of our Dear Leader on too many legislative initiatives to ever win love from the Campbellites.

Baldrey just seems tired. It's tough to present politics visually in a ratings-obsessed private-broadcaster newshour. Maybe his story ideas are being nixed. Perhaps he's just stopped pitching. Time to go back to print?

What about Good or, as the BC Grits dub him, Old Reliable? Iwouldn't be a bit surprised to see Campbell or his (successor) lean on the Feds to appoint him the next Lieutenant-Governor. Assuming he loses his CTV gig, Bill would jump at the chance before his NW schtick wears completely thin.
