I've been sitting on this complaint for a few months, figuring I may be exaggerating the problem in my own mind.

But today, with the volume up and my ears able to pick up the slightest nuance, I heard Ryan Price for the umpteenth time refer to the 12 pm news on C-FAX 1070 as 'the Nyoos at Nyoon.'
Later in the hour he referred to the title of the show as 'Victoria at Nyoon.'

I appreciate the 'News' word being pronounced as most Canadians prefer .. as opposed to the 'noos' we often get from Americans.  But is that any reason to add the same approach to another `n`word that follows?   'Noos' I know is acceptable in some circles .. but I've never heard anyone else put the 'y' into the Noon word.  And it sounds bad.

Especially when it is repeated frequently.

Since I've been hearing this same aberration for months, I gather there's no one critiquing speech patterns and pronunciation .. or holding aircheck sessions .. at C-FAX 1070.

When the station stops sounding amateurish like it has in recent years, then threads like this are more than justified.

CFAX once considered 'Victoria's News Authority', is no more.

A couple of the News readers at CFAX are a joke when it comes to proper pronounciation of words.... It's not only offensive, it's embarrassing to listen to someone who is supposed to have the authority in providing accurate reporting along with proper pronounciation.

It's a shame, where is Murray Langdon, I thought he was the newsdirector and program director..... he must have too many hats and not enough time to listen to these casualties on his radio station or heaven forbid he doesn't care

What about Toos-Day.... I want to know where the 2 came from. I never ever heard my teachers call it 2's Day....  because it's Tues-Day. Cfax isn't the only one who have newsies with a 2, it seems people from Saskatchewan like the Q's and CHEK weather dude Ed Bain also call it 2's day.....

Victoria is a really decent sized market...CFAX deserves to be ripped on PSR if they have people in the daytime that say such things (nyoon). Thats brutal; I would think airchecks would be done in a market that size...

But perhaps that speaks to the industry now-a-days.

Either no one cares, or no one is listening....gotta be one of the two.

My comment on the C-FAX news readers is that two of the females sound almost like teen-aged girls and a third female sounds bored, even monotoneish without any expression when she reads the news.

Are there no baritone male voices getting into radio news anymore?

AMEN to that!  It must be a case of insufficient dollars to attract anything but entry-level talent.

Or even decently-modulated mature women's voices.  IMHO, the majority of the recent C-FAX news hires should have been told at the start of broadcast school that they weren't suited for air work.

No No,Don't get me wrong, i agree 100% that the criticism is more than warranted....Whatever happened to the day of looking for good broadcasters across the country, making them an offer to come to Victoria, rather than just the first BCIT grad that walks in the door. I know, it's all dollar and cents ( or no sense)..And I've said it before don't get me started on the female reporters....Where's Jennifer Cador when C-FAX needs her??

I never noticed Ryan does this. And I was sitting across the table from him today during the noon news. It will be impossible for me to ignore this from now on.

... and let's not forget the applied broadcasting students that get to do their internships as a friend of my son's recently did. It was interesting to hear him "grow" during the months he was with CFAX. My hat's off to CFAX for giving these young people the chance.

What happened to the days of midnight shifts... Traffic reports in Spuzzam at 2 AM.. etc., rather than starting in major centers

You know......Its easy for us to critize CFAX over little things here and there, but I heard something this morning, that as a Canadian, insulted me, and I've never even been to the city mentioned......It was the 8 AM news, and a female giving the news, ( I'm not sure which one she was so I won't say names), mentioned a story about an Ontario town.....And it was pronounced.....Salt Saint Marie
