That's quite the collapse for the Mother Corp. Is this the first full PPM measurement? |

This is the last diary "book", and does not incorporate PPM data, which is released separately. |

This is a PPM book, which is now the official rule of measurement. Diaries were filled out, but PPM is now in effect for sales purposes. |

The numbers that are shown here as "S4" are the PPM numbers
The Shore is 0.9 ..... 0.1 behind the 1 share I predicted.... I'm just sayin'
Sarah ... any thoughts? |

What do I think, Marathon? Well, that you are the Jon Gosselin of the board, but that's not the question. Check the PPM's - Shore is a 2.2 for men 35-54....not bad for a completely different and new format in six months with no advertising. It's always amazing to me how when something new and exciting hits the airwaves, people piss all over it.
That will be my only comment here, I will be otherwise detained watching paint dry. |

I fail to see where pointing out low ratings is "pissing all over something". Some of these people wondering about this may like the stations and are concerned that due the the low ratings, a change in on-air and format may be next in line.
Just because we (radio people) find a station fresh and exciting doesn't mean the masses will. Sure there may people within the station that put a lot of passion into the product...but if people continue to stay way, big changes may have to be made.
I call it the "Ishtar" effect. Lots of people put love into that movie (like some of the stations here) but that didn't translate into anything except failure. Look at The Peak...they've been going for over a year and still haven't reached the level of where their AM station was. Yet I'm sure the people behind the scenes feel like everyone has given 110%. And I bet they are very proud of their station. But none of that means anything if no one is listening...or worse...listen for a bit and don't come back.
It's sad, but true. |

Sarah.... no advertising? You do still live in Vancouver, no? Did you miss all the "Roots, Rock and Rhythm" buses, not to mention their sponsorship and presentation of the Celebration of Light? |

A lot of people have been dumping on the PEAK on this site, and the comparison with AM 600 is somewhat non-nonsensical given the adult standards audience is not what you'd call "prime" for advertisers. I think any station would rather attract earners and spenders than retirees. The age old rule is if you want cume, put nostalgia on the air. It doesn't guarantee profit. I also scoured the final "book" based on diary measurement today...and the PEAK was actually pretty solid. It worked the other way for different stations. Some had great PPM's and poor diaries. BTW...I for one, LOVE the Shore, and hope they keep doing what they're doing. |

Maybe someone has the answer to this. Why is it that Praise-106 in Lynden is included in the PPM ratings and the Bellingham stations...namely 104.3 KAFE and 92.9 KISM are not? I know of alot of people north of the 49th that listen to KAFE. Just curious... |

- My guess is the sizable number of listeners in Abbotsford and the Valley, and partly in Langley West to Van...just a guess...
In regards to ratings I'm surprised all the AMs did so well with PPM...I thought FMs would come out WAY ahead...
As for the Peak...all the haters should ease up...this is a station getting LOTS of attention from people in their 20s who didn't use to listen to radio, "they don't play my kind of music"...same for Shore I think, but the Peak definitely has that younger Triple A audience, which will translate into a solid brand in 5-7 years...from my observations Pattison stations like to build long-term
FYI - I don't work in radio, but I watch the numbers ;)
Kudos to CFOX! O'Neil and the rest are great!
Any word on other BC Books...er...Data? |

any station on any side of the border can choose to be rated. as long as the check clears. simple as that |

I wasn't dumping on the Peak...just pointing out a fact. Having a station that WAS sitting around a 3 to revamp and have it hover around a 1 is something that can't be making head office jumping with joy. And make no mistake, I'm sure they expected big things to happen with the Peak. Lord knows they've done enough to push the brand...signage is everywhere.

The overall ratings would seem to disagree with you. Just because those in your circle listen to it doesn't mean everyone is doing the same. Again...see the start of this thread. Why is it that when someone here points out something based on the data that he/she is "dumping" on something. I had NOTHING...repeat...NOTHING to do with how the ratings came out. It's not my fault that no one is listening to the bottom stations. And if it weren't these stations at the bottom then it would be some other station(s) that we'd be talking about right now. Someone will always be at the bottom and someone will always be at the top. If the Peak had a 10 share I wouldn't have mentioned it. But it didn't...it landed a 1.2 this time...which...no matter how you slice it...isn't very good (to be blunt - it sucks - not the station...the rating of 1.2). And the reason I'm not bringing up SHORE is simply because they haven't reached the one year mark yet. And unless things start to change there, I'm sure this time next year the thread will be chatting about them in much the same way as I have mentioned the Peak. Do I want that...no. I would love it if all the stations came out about even. That would be fantastic...just not realistic. |
