"One helluva a way
to master public speaking"

Cpt. Barry Bowman

The 1994 movie Forrest Gump coined a classic phrase when Forrest Gump quoted his mother as saying, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.” That phrase reminds me of achievers like Barry Bowman.
Barry was born in the thriving metropolis of Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, where he dreamed of a career in theatre.
Upon graduating from high school he was accepted at Montreal’s National Theatre School. He was on his way to fame and fortune, or so he thought. Not having the funds, he put that dream on hold and at age 17 began a career with radio station CFSL Weyburn, Saskatchewan — a career that took him west to Victoria, where for over 30 years he was known on radio as the “Morning Mayor of Victoria.” on CFAX
As a radio host he became a much sought-after public speaker.  Over the years he honed his public speaking skills and is now sharing them with people — literally anywhere in the world. All one needs is a computer.

Barry has written a virtual book entitled "One Helluva Speech — Guide to Public Speaking'. Catch is, you cannot buy it in a bookstore, or hold it in your hand when you read it. You simply order it online at http://www.helluvaspeech.com, receive a password, then read it on your computer screen. It is protected to prevent downloading or sharing — Barry. Of Nirch Hills, has mastered the essence of high tech.

From his home-based recording studio in Brentwood Bay, B.C. he records commercials for radio stations across Canada, the U.S. and countries as diverse as Grand Cayman.

He still satisfies his urge to act. Last summer over 400,000 visitors to the world-famous RMS Titanic display at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria were welcomed aboard by an actor dressed as the ship’s Captain, E.J. Smith. The actor was so believable I thought it was the original Captain E.J.Smith brought back to life. It was only when I heard a familiar voice say, “Hello Dick and Aline, welcome aboard,” that I realized it was our good friend Barry Bowman giving one heckuva performance.

Congratulations to Barry! I grew up idolizing him and he is one of the main reasons I got into radio. I still have all the cassettes of the Best of Bowman songs... whether talking about paving on the Pat Bay Highway or welcoming the commonwealth games in 94... he always had his own spin on that left listeners laughing and waiting for more!
