Just on the K-Rock Edmonton website and Steve Zimmerman isn't listed.  It just shows Jim & Bill for the morning show.  Is Steve no longer there?

CTV Edmonton reported on its Saturday supper hour newscast that Zimmerman was fired.

"Newcap would only say it was time to go in a different direction."

"K-Rock's popularity took a hit in the recent radio ratings. For now, Jim Jerome and Bill Cowen will handle the K-Rock morning show."

Proving once again that it's not if ... but when.

Wow - this Zimmerman must be pretty big stuff to hit the CTV News.  Last time I saw radio on the news, Frosty left 'NW after a hundred years.

i wonder if Lochlin is re-thinking his move to Edm?  You can only get rid of so many players before mgmt starts looking at the coach.

Maybe the problem is that they haven't gotten rid of ANY of the players prior to this move. Perhaps we'll see some more changes in the near future.

That's twice that Zimmerman couldn't handle the morning show after the departure of Terry Evans. First at the Bear and now K-Rock. BTW...it was a slow news day at CTV. Zimmerman is not that big of a story. He's DONE in radio now. Nobody will hire him based on attitude. He was lucky to get back in when Evans and Steve Jones hired him away from the auction place he was working at.

It was buried just past the half hour mark and just before a commercial break.

It was probably just an excuse to run some footage CFRN collected during its "Voices Behind The Microphones" features back in February.

Can you say "slow news day" or maybe the Zimmer has a friend in the lineup editor.

The show went from #1 adults 25-54 to #5 in the past year. The station over all has lost 40% of its audience. If the geniuses at Newcap think that Bill Cowan and Jim Jerome are going to be the answer to thier "post Evans" problems, they are dumber than they have actually proven themselves to be. There is not one progressive thinker in the whole building. The airstaff is lazy and getting NO direction from the new PD. It's the most uninspired radio since the Bear signed on in '92 and blew them out of the air. Changes needed??? Duh. Time to start over. Re-brand, re-think, re-tool, re-position, and replace the airstaff, GM, PD, MD and Promo Director. Why is it that New GM's and PD's and Promo Directors get handed a gem on a silver platter and then drive it into the ground within 10 months? Are the head office people at Newcap BLIND to everything that is happening at their "Flagship" radio station?? Do they even know? Word is...Mayhew doesn't involve himself much anymore...

I think this was anything but a "gem on a silver platter" handed to the new PD and MD. K-Rock has been on a steady decline for more than just the past year.

Take a look at the ratings since 2002...the big book in fall 06 WAS the blip - not the stinker in spring 2007. As far as a lack of direction from the new PD, I think its probably been tough to deal with anything but the mess of a morning show. Besides, how many PD's did they go through before Cross moved from Winnipeg? 4 in 5 months or something? Plus they got a new GM last year and a new MD at the start of this year.

Lazy airstaff? You're probably right...but dumping someone like Zimmerman - who would've been untouchable a year ago - will probably get everyone's attention and give the impression that no one's safe.

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

Untouchable??? He was a blonde hair away from being canned on 4 different ocassions in the last 2 years. Never underestimate the power of kissing butt to right people in the halls  after 3 1/2 hours of making 2 other guys miserable EVERY day. Untouchable is the furthest thing from the truth. He had 2 guys putting up with him that wanted him gone every minute of the day.
