Bill Cosby has been accused of rape by dozens of women over the course of more than a decade but it appears that just now the allegations are starting to impact the career of the beloved comedian
.
Cosby faced his first accuser in 2000, but was hit with the brunt of the rape allegations in 2004, when 13 women stepped forward to accuse the comedian of having improper relationships.

Those allegations came back to light this month when comedian Hannibal Burress called out Cosby during a stand-up routine, ripping his stature as a beloved comedian and asking aloud why the allegations didn’t seem to get much play in the media:

“It’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the f***ing smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the 80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom.’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.”

“‘I don’t curse onstage.’ Well, yeah, you’re [a] rapist, so I’ll take you saying lots of motherf***ers on ‘Bill Cosby: Himself’ if you weren’t a rapist. I don’t know what I’m doing by telling you. I guess I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch ‘Cosby Show’ reruns.”

“Dude’s image, for the most part, it’s f***ing public Teflon image. I’ve done this bit on stage and people think I’m making it up … That s**t is upsetting. If you didn’t know about it trust me. When you leave here, Google ‘Bill Cosby rape.’ It’s not funny. That s**t has more results than ‘Hannibal Buress’.”

But now it appears that is changing. The rape allegations against Bill Cosby have found a new life and Cosby’s career may be taking a hit. This week, Queen Latifah announced that she was dropping Cosby as a guest on her talk show, with production sources telling TMZ that they didn’t want the association with the rape allegations.

Officially, Queen Latifah denies that the cancellation has anything to do with the rape allegations.

“Mr. Cosby’s scheduled appearance on The Queen Latifah Show was postponed at his request and was in no way related to any of our recent or upcoming scheduled guests,” a spokesperson for the show told TMZ.

Others are turning against Bill Cosby as well. Salon published an article titled, “We must abandon Bill Cosby: A broken trust with women, black America,” calling on American to turn away from the comedian. Other news outlets have picked up on the controversy, re-printing accounts from Cosby’s accusers.

Though his career may now be declining due to the controversy, Bill Cosby won’t face his rape allegations in court. While he was sued by some of his accusers, Cosby has not faced criminal charges.
